About this site:
Selling Dreams: What is it and what does it mean? I’ve often been asked that.

I first picked it up from a fashion designer explaining how top couturiers would spend so much money on haute couture fashion shows when only around 10 women in the whole world would possibly buy them. He said that purchases of those haute couture gowns are not what the designers are after. They’re not just selling the clothes- they’re selling the dream. Very few can afford those haute couture pieces, but if the show was great, people tend to feel good about buying, for example a Christian Dior coat from a ready-to-wear line, because although it’s not haute couture, it’s by the same designer.

That’s one part of its meaning to me but that’s just half of it. I’m a dreamer. I have lots of thoughts and ideas and optimistic goals. But I don’t stop at dreaming and that’s why I’m “selling my dreams.” More often than not, I feel the need to share these with people who I trust to care about it, support me and even aid me in fulfilling them. I’m forever selling dreams and people don’t always buy them, some saying they’re unrealistic, or too shallow- and some pretend to buy it but they really don’t think much of it.

The text on my other theme’s header image is taken from this song by Joshua Kadison (I believe he had Sarah Jessica Parker in mind when he wrote this song.) Maybe this will help to further explain what to sell a dream means..

From a phone booth in Vegas, Jessie calls at 5 a.m.
to tell me how she’s tired of all of them.
She says, “Baby, I been thinking ’bout a trailer by the sea.
We could go to Mexico…you, the cat, and me.
We’ll drink tequila and look for sea shells.
Now, doesn’t that sound sweet?”
Oh, Jessie, you always do this every time I get back on my feet.
Jessie paint your pictures ’bout how it’s gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea;
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me.
She asks me how the cat’s been, I say, “Moses he’s just fine
but he used to think about you all the time.
We finally took you pictures down off the wall.
Oh, Jessie, how do you always seem to know just when to call?”
She says, “Get your stuff together. Bring Mose and drive real fast.”
And I listen to her promise, “I swear to God this time it’s gonna last.”
Jessie paint your pictures ’bout how it’s gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea;
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me.
I’ll love you in the sunshine, lay you down in the warm white sand.
And who know, maybe this time things’ll turn out just the way you planned.
Jessie paint your pictures ’bout how it’s gonna be.
By now I should know better, your dreams are never free
.
But tell me all about our little trailer by the sea
Jessie you can always sell any dream to me.
Oh, Jessie, you can always sell any dream to me..

Dreams may be intangible, like thoughts.. but mine are never free..
