How to Dress to Look Slimmer

I guess this is something most women aim for every morning when dressing up for the day ahead. So here are a few simple things I have learned in the span of more than 20 summers I have walked this runway we call earth.. hopefully some of you might pick something up. =) They are loosely categorised.

General Tips:

Legs and thighs and hips:

Chest and tummy:

Arms:

Invest first in the classics and basics that you’re sure to look good in and try to avoid trendy clothes. It will be easier for you to find well-made classic clothing than well-made trendy clothing since the latter are often made for only a certain body type and the former have been around for a long time and are offered in all sorts of cuts to suit almost everyone.I’m typing things as I remember them so if I’ve missed something, feel free to ask or contribute. =)

@ Anna: Thanks, glad you can use them!

by the way, what exactly is a gathered sleeve?

That brown shirt in the slew of pictures (not worn by a model) has gathered sleeves. What it is is longer, looser sleeves that are gathered at the top of your shoulders toward your neck which makes the sleeves shorter. The nice bit about it is the bunch of fabric in the area near the armpits which help hide problem bits there. Also, the extra fabric at the top where they bunch from the gathering squares your shoulders.

Your tips are very helpful but I would love to see pictures of models who are bigger sizes so we larger women could actually see the full benefits of using your tips.

heh, im probably the only guy who will comment on this. why pick the girls who dont need to lose weight to model clothing styles that help u look slimming? i wanna see some fat girls in those clothes to see if it really works. maybe thats mean, but even the slim girls wanna look slimmer and its ridiculous to show the antihesis or the article. If a guy wants to see ur figure, pounds extra or not,(which we love both :P) it doesnt matter what clothes u wear. thanks for letting me come out of my man cave and share I hope all u ladies remain hetero after this….

Thanks for the great tips! As we get older things happen to our body and it changes! The things we used to wear no longer look good! You gave some great tips on the problem areas of some woman (like me). Thanks again!

Some people apparently don’t realise, but those pictures are placed to give an idea of the garments I mentioned in the entry. They are not and I I have never implied that they are examples of “fat girls” looking slimmer because of the clothes they are wearing. They are models. Those are inspiration looks- to illustrate the key ideal garment pieces so we all know what they look like. Feel free to submit “before and after” photos of yourselves if you want some “real people” photos here but frankly, that’s not the point.

These are just personal ideas and tips that I’m sharing to anyone who are looking for them and/or are needing them. You just have to find out for yourself if they work for you or not. And it really goes without saying: Those who don’t need these need not express any opinion about it. Really.

And lastly, this was written following a premise that some girls want to look slimmer. Whatever else anyone will want to say about it, the truth is that some girls just want to look slimmer. Nothing between the lines, just read and digest each word: Some girls just want to look slimmer. Enough said.
