On Slipper-like Sandals
Woke up to a gloomy Ortigas and had to drag myself off of my warm cosy bed. Choosing what to wear takes up some time since my university has really strict policies on the dress code.. “no décolletage; shirts, blouses, and top-wear must cover the waist area at all times; may wear footwear of choice except slippers and slipper-like sandals.â€
And speaking of “slipper-like†sandals. Our security guards are experts when it comes to them.
I have been witness to mini debates during mornings usually between a female student stamping her foot and a guard all in navy blue, both gesturing to the student’s feet- or more specifically, her sandals. To put an end to all that, they posted a two-page fully coloured spread dedicated to “slipper-like†sandals of almost every imaginable color, style and variation on the hallway where it couldn’t possibly be missed.
I remember literally stopping dead right on my tracks seeing that spread the first time thinking, “How come they’re displaying my shoes up here?†before seeing the bold headline- “SLIPPER-LIKE SANDALSâ€
Oh well.. It’s all to maintain the corporate atmosphere of the university.
And just to clear up some common misconceptions, UA&P people aren’t corporate-wannabes. We are required to wear corporate attire. (gasp!) Yes. So no, we don’t do it for fun as most of you might have been thinking.
