Prolonging the Agony
The 13th ASEAN Summit has been postponed. After months and months of preparation and the hassles and institutions revising schedules and planning alternate routes and everything in between, they change their minds at the last possible minute. Unbelievable. But there you go. Which means I will not be going home tomorrow afterall since we have classes for another week- the supposedly ASEAN week. I’m so prepared to go home and so completely done with school for the year and this happens. I didn’t even think of the possibility of this happening. It’s that horrible. What if I had already flown yesterday? I’d have been forced to come back for classes. I have to move my flight to the next Saturday-16th.
So what’s the reason? Well the number 1 rumour going around is that they’re afraid of the landslides and floods (since there’s a storm here in Cebu until Sunday I think). Right. They think that just because one island in the Philippines had a landslide, all the other 7,000+ islands are going to start crumbling away. Really now. So that’s hardly it. Some are saying there’s a far more serious reason which, obviously, is undisclosed to the public. But I hope to God that this isn’t just some deceptive maneuvre to throw off the “possible terrorists” and that they’d go through with it afterall. Because if I get stuck here under the impression that I have classes to go to when I don’t afterall, oh boy, I will not be happy. Not at all.
Assuming they have already postponed the thing, I think they will push through this Jan. 2, 2007 so that hopefully means that although I don’t get to have an early vacation, I’d get an extended one.
One more week……

[...] The blogosphere also has many reactions to the postponement of the Cebu Summit. Foreign Service Insider says, as a member of our diplomatic service, says the abrupt postponement “is simply unheard of.” Cebuano bloggers in particular, have a lot to say. See the reactions of Cold Soba, of crisel eslao, of Pain Killer, of light up, light up, you have a choice and of Cebu Bound. Writing from Davao, Promdi says terrorism was the reason, but government couldn’t admit it. [...]
